Moments

One breath is enough

Over the past 71 days, I have been practicing mindfulness. In all honesty, I might have missed a day or two, but that’s beside the point. It’s been a journey that I’ll be sharing at another time.

I’ve been using the Waking Up app by Sam Harris. It offers a vast amount of philosophical and powerful content. A recent addition to the application that lasts a minute barely has had an interesting effect on my conscious awareness.

This seemingly minuscule addition is called Moments.

With the consumer’s approval, it will notify you when these cropped knowledge bombs are released and are only available upon clicking the notification bubble that pops up on your phone. So if you miss it, it’s gone forever, but again not the point.

What I’ve gained from Moments is space.

This might sound counterintuitive at first, but I feel that it is a deterioration of the distance between ritualized meditation and the consistent motion of life.

It’s stopping to become fully immersed in awareness.

Notice your breath right now, the underlying intention to read this article, maybe even tune into the sensations of your hands…What do your hands feel like now?

Pre-meditation, I felt as if I was jumping from one thought tornado to the next. Any resemblance of space was the split second from one chaotic thought loop to another.

I believe these moments are essential. That embracing these purposeful pauses might not only make you present but completely immersed within life because sometimes it’s nice to have your foot on earth.
